christmas 2010 - part one

A text from my oldest yesterday afternoon...."Touchdown in God's Country. I need a lift".

Always one to oblige, I skedaddled to the airport to pick up my son and his adorable girlfriend. Poor things had to get up at one in the ayem to catch a train into New York to get their flight yesterday morning. Amazingly enough, they were up with the rest of us this morning. I was very impressed.

I'm pretty excited to have another girl in the house. I've been outnumbered for the last twenty three years, but for this week at least, the balance of power won't be quite so lopsided.

The infamous red dresser is tucked away in its new home. I'm hoping the fairy lights and the vintage Christmas tree take attention away from the fact that it takes a body builder to get the drawers open. They used to open and close like a dream, but I think the eight coats of paint I put on them had a detrimental effect on their smooth operation.

There are still a few large, blank walls in the guest room, but when in decorating doubt, just add more fairy lights and a couple cute baby pictures of your guest's boyfriend and you're good to go.

One final touch....I found these adorable Christmas Paper dolls at The Graphics Fairy.
Check out this site when you have at least four hours to get lost in all manner of vintage clip art goodness.

It looks like our week is off to a good start. Everyone has safely arrived, the kitchen is stocked and I had leftover Peanut Butter Pie for breakfast.

It's Christmas at Meadowbrook Farm.

  1. Hi Teresa! Oh, I'm glad to hear your bunch has safely arrived! Your Christmas decorating is just so sweet! Love the little tree and those cute little sparkly beaded thingys! :) The paper dolls are so cute. I used to collect vintage paper dolls and these would fit right in. Now, if you have just one more tiny slice of that peanut butter pie...I could come over! :)
    Be a sweetie,

  9. I'm in love with your style. In love I tell you! I still think you are scanning magazine covers - aren't you? You really live in a shack in Kentucky. I like telling myself this T - it make me feel so much better about myself! Ha! All joking aside - I'm loving these updates about your Christmas. Been thinking about you today knowing that today was the day it all started. Have a wonderful time!

  18. Oh my.....I always love your posts. My heart skipped a beat when I saw your Popular Mechanics Do It Yourself Encyclopedias. I JUST got rid of my dad's set that had been untouched on my bookshelves, for years. I was in a cleaning frenzy....I needed to un-clutter. I have too much STUFF....and now I'm second guessing that decision. Sigh. Enjoy your family visit, and of course I'd also love to be a guest in that delicious room!

  29. So wonderful to be able to have your family "come home". My daughter and her boyfriend will be coming in on December 17th to spend a week with us. I can hardly wait. I haven't seen her since the end of June.

I feel for you and your all male household! I've only been all male since my daughter went to college a little more than 4 years now... it is definately different with just the guys.

The peanut butter pie looks devine... I make a peanut butter pie every Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. Yours looks very similar, yum yum.

    Happy holidays,
    Chris

PS I still love that little clock with the picture on it's face... I've been scouring eBay ever since your last guest room post :)

  41. How fun for you to have a young lady in the house! We have the opposite problem here... no boys other than my man. I can hardly wait for my oldest to find that "Mr. Right for Her", but patience must prevail. I hope this young gal is everything you hope and just right for your son!

And thank you for posting more photos of your room! I just adore it!! I'm sewing pillow shams this weekend for my girls (aka: the guest room) and painting their bathroom today. Think maybe I might need some caffeine? Peanut Butter Pie would work, too!

  44. Merry Christmas! I'm sure you couldn't be pulled away from that wonderful home full o family (n PB pie) for anything... BUT maybe later, in the long dreary winter, after frostbite n ice have gotten old, you could come stage my home for me? I have boxes of vintage goodness but no energy or enthusiasm (til I see your pics). You have such a gift! Your pictures beat anything I've seen in Country Home even! Hope you wanted that sweet girl as family cause I'd bet she's fixin' to stay forever now. Lucky thing. EnJOY!
    hugs,
    Leslie
